Grid Gasket for CNC Router Vacuum Hold Down is like the Lip of the Freezer Door.
Grid Gasket is the first step to improve the Vacuum performance on your CNC Router. Every CNC Router that is employing vacuum hold-down methods needs to incorporate some type of gasket material. Most operators are familiar with the gasket material that is placed in the outermost channel of their CNC router grid table. Many CNC Router training seminars will mention: “make sure to get some gasket material to get a good seal around your spoilboards”. This gasket material is essential to fill the void between the router table and the spoil board, creating a quality vacuum clamp on the spoil board. We call this Grid Gasket, and all new and potential users of CNC routers are taught that their machine’s vacuum performance is dependent on this seal.
The ideal product will fill the channel width-wise evenly and stick above the surface of the channel by roughly 1/16”. Also, a rounded channel should be fitted with a round gasket. Squared channels should be fitted with squared gasket products. All Star CNC has a Grid Gasket product for each CNC Router Manufacturer. The proper Grid Gasket product for a particular channel size is crucial to maximizing vacuum performance. Too narrow and it will slip in the channel. Too wide and it will pinch when trying to zero out on the z-depth. Most tables come with a simple rope cord to use. Improving your gasket seal will improve your vacuum performance.

Many customers ask how often do I need to change my grid gasket? It is like the Oil in your car. It depends how much you use it. At least every once a year.
