Onefinity CNC Woodworking – End Grain Dough Bowl – Full Video – Actual Speed + All the Boring Stuff

DISCLAIMER. Not an expert (not even close). Happy to receive constructive criticism as it helps us all learn.

A long boring video with low production value for anyone who just wants to watch the setup and machining process at normal speed including bit changes. A shorter highlight video will also be posted for those with limited attention spans.

Feeds and Speeds:

1/2 Spiral Bit 100 ipm x 18,000 rpm x 0.4″ DOC (10mm)
1 1/8″ bowl bit 100 ipm x 18,000 rpm x 0.28″ DOC (7mm) **
1/4″ spiral bit 120 ipm x 18,000 rpm x 0.2″ DOC (5mm)

Things I learned:

– ** Bowl bit does not like removing 0.25″ of material in one pass. Next time will use 1/2″ spiral and leave only a small amount of cleanup for the bowl bit.
– If you don’t hit “done” right after zeroing and move the bit below the surface of the piece it will move to x=0, y=0 when you hit “done”. If the piece happens to be in the way you get a collision (ask me how I know).

Other Info:

– The probe is super slow for X and Y zero, manual is much quicker. Benefit to probe is that if you interrupt the program and lose your zero you have an accurate means to set it to the same location again to continue with the last or next operation. I only worry about this with multi-tool operations in case I mess up in programming and have to abort.

0:00 Zeroing the bit
2:37 Pocket Operation – 1/2″ Bit
10:07 Tool Change and Z-zero
12:40 Final Pocket Operation – 1 1/8″ Bowl Bit
16:10 Tool Change and Z-zero
18:25 Cutout – 1/4″ Bit
