Grand Canyon 3D CNC wood carving.

I’ve got a new channel name, new Shapeoko 4XXL cnc machine and a new 3D cnc wood carving project.

I created an stl of the horseshoe bend area of the Grand Canyon on the map2stl.com website and imported it into the Carveco Maker software.

I glued together five layers of hardwood onto a piece of 1/2″ plywood for the base. I used 1/2″ thick walnut, maple and redheart to give some contrast to the different layers, similar to the different layers you see exposed areas like the Grand Canyon and Red Rock Canyon.

I used a 1/4″ endmill for the rough pass a t 125″ per minute at a .125 depth of cut and a 1/32 tapered ball nose for the finish pass at 100″ per minute with a stepover of 0.005″ and a depth of cut of 0.25″
