DIY CNC Router Cutting Aluminium and Steel



Some machining trials on my homemade CNC router. I’m machining 5080 aluminium and mild steel using a 5mm, 3 flute carbide bit, aiming for significant material removal.

The router frame is welded from steel tube, and the spindle is a modified 500W air cooled brushed DC spindle from China. NEMA 23 steppers and 1204 ball screws. Max travese speed is ~5000mm/min, but limited to 4000mm/min.

Working area is 330 x 235 x 114 mm (X Y Z)
