A control panel added to the apron of a DIY CNC lathe retains the manual lathe feel for turning simple parts without programming. The panel has two manual pulse generator wheels (MPG wheels), e-stop, and run, stop, feed-pause buttons. Using the hand wheels, LinuxCNC acts as a sophisticated DRO, and it’s easy to switch back to full CNC control. The lathe is a SouthBend SB1001.
